Introduction

   Trichuriasis also known as trichocephaliasis or whipworm infection is a very common intestinal helminthic infection.

   It is caused by various species of Trichuria:

• Trichuris trichuria: 

             a parasite of humans and some non-human primates. This species is always become a cause of most        

             human infection

• Trichuris vulpis and Trichuris suis: 

              this two species are animal parasites that cause zoonotic trichuriasis

Trichuris trichuria

about one quarter of the world's population is thought be carrier. It is mainly endemic in tropical Asia and less common in Africa and America. It is common in warm moist climates and poor sanitation areas. Due to higher exposure risk, children are most susceptible to be infected. one study is done in Nigeria to determine relationship between hygienic conditions and worm infestation status and it is found that there is higher prevalence in school with poor hygienic conditions. (ie lack of tapwater and handwashing soap)

The worms do not undergo tissue migration and relatively asymptomatic. Only patients with heavy parasite burden become symptomatics. they life in the large intestinal of man especially the caecum and vermiform appendix.
